Day One - All the Flights

Well we have arrived in the Red Roof Hostel in Seattle. We had a total of 3 flights today, Dublin - London, London - Chicago and then Chicago to Seattle.

We left the house at 4am Irish time to get the aircoach trip on the relatively new 'through the port tunnel' route which got us to Dublin airport with plenty of time. Used the new self service check in kiosks that Aerlingus now have and discovered we weren't sitting with each other for the connecting flight to Chicago.

When we arrived in London we went to the desk and asked could we try to get seats together. We were told it was fully booked and that we could ask the people sitting next to us to swap seats if we liked. So that was grand. We wandered around the airport for a while and headed down to the gate where we dicovered the flight was already at closing stages which was weird as it was 6.10 and the flight was due to leave at 6.40. Went up to the lady at the gate and she says that we were due an upgrade:-) We were bumped up to business class. The guy we asked before hand must have pulled a few strings. We didn't mind at all. Our seats were bigger, a lot of leg room (with a recliner) and our own little touch screen tv to ourselves with loads of on demand movies to choose from. Easiest 8 hour flight I have ever had.

The last flight needless to say did not live up to this. I was glad to get off that flight. (I had great fun playing the DS - Mark)

We went to pick up our car. It's a Cheverolet and it is grey! :-) Driving on the other side of the road for the first time after 25 hours traveling probably isn't the safest way to begin so thankfully we had the sense to book a place across the road from the airport. No more than a 5 minute drive going no faster than 30.

No doubt that will not be the case tomorrow which is when we start looking for RV's - that should be fun.

Signing off for now Mark and Emer.
